Final Review

The last structured review of a learning solution before release or delivery, used to confirm that content, functionality, presentation, and required changes are complete and ready for approval.

Final Review

Confirm the learning solution is ready to release.

A final review is the last structured review of a learning solution before it is approved for release or delivery.

By this point, major design decisions and earlier feedback should already be resolved. The focus shifts to confirming that the approved content is accurate, required changes are complete, and the solution works as expected.

A final review may apply to an eLearning course, presentation, facilitator guide, job aid, video, performance-support tool, or another learning deliverable.

Review the Things That Could Affect Release

The exact review depends on the deliverable, but several areas commonly need one last check.

Content Confirm approved wording, examples, instructions, labels, and other information are accurate.
Functionality Check links, navigation, interactions, media, forms, downloads, or other working elements.
Presentation Look for formatting, layout, visual, audio, caption, or consistency issues.
Requirements Confirm agreed accessibility, technical, delivery, and project requirements are met.
Final review asks whether the approved solution is complete and ready—not whether the project should start over.

Keep the Final Review Focused

A final review can become difficult when reviewers treat it like a new design round instead of a readiness check.

Useful Question Is this a release issue, an unresolved requirement, or a new preference?
Fix Release Issues Correct errors, broken functionality, missing content, accessibility problems, or incomplete approved changes.
Resolve True Requirements Address anything required for accuracy, compliance, usability, technical delivery, or agreed project scope.
Separate New Requests Capture new ideas or preferences for a later update when they are not necessary for the current release.
Clear review boundaries help prevent late-stage feedback from turning into unnecessary rework.

Know What “Ready” Means Before You Release

Final approval should reflect a shared understanding that the solution is ready for its intended audience and environment.

✓
Required changes are complete Earlier review comments have been addressed or formally resolved.
✓
The deliverable works as intended Important functionality and learner-facing elements have been checked.
✓
Approval is clear The appropriate reviewer or stakeholder has confirmed the release.
✓
The release version is controlled The team knows which file or version is the approved final deliverable.
Final review creates a clear handoff from development and revision to release or delivery.
